Ever since the release of Disney Plus TV shows and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Marvel has been on a roll with its latest releases. Now, the wait for one of the most highly-anticipated Marvel movies is over; “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has been released!

“WandaVision” was a brilliant series, and I mildly-enjoyed the first Doctor Strange movie. So I thought, why not? This has the potential to be really good.

Did I have higher expectations for the film? Yes. But was it still enjoyable? Also yes.

The visual effects were amazing. Mixed with Marvel’s past history of stunning VFX and Sami Raimi’s horror elements, I was very impressed. It felt very different from a Marvel film, leaning towards more of the horror genre than Marvel’s light-hearted direction in “Ragnarok.” Paired with captivating action sequences, this was definitely the main highlight of the film. Some scenes were brutal, even borderline haunting; I would even say it is one of the darkest Marvel movies yet. Despite its frightful visual effects and sequences, the story per se was not dark…

Actually, the story was superficial and lacked depth. Although some superhero films might not have the most complex themes, there was so much content preceding this film: “WandaVision,” “Doctor Strange,” even “Spider-Man: No Way Home” to name a few. Yet, they came up with that storyline. Like I said, no spoilers, but it just was needing more substance. Hence “Multiverse of Madness,” I expected more madness, more intricacy in the story. Was it still engaging and kept me at the edge of my seat? Yes, but for such a high-profile Marvel film, it was disappointing to see what they came up with.

For Marvel movies standards, it was a bit on the weaker side for all the hype and potential it had. The movie itself, however, was pretty solid. It was definitely no “Endgame,” but it was definitely entertaining to watch in the theaters!
