As Winter Break approaches, many holidays begin to be celebrated by Freedom High school students. A lot of movies have been produced dedicated to these holidays and many FHS students enjoy watching these movies.

Approximately 60 FHS students were polled about what holiday movies are their favorite to watch. The top three movies selected were “Elf,” “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2”. Many other movies were listed, including classics such as “Rudolph” and the “Polar Express,” and newer movies such as “Holidate,” which was released in 2020 on Netflix.

“My favorite holiday movie is “Home Alone” because it’s really funny, and I can keep watching it without getting bored,” said freshman Keira Lee.

While all of the movies chosen by FHS students celebrated a holiday, their genres and plot varied. Some FHS students chose “Diehard,” an action movie which takes place on Christmas Eve, as their favorite holiday movie. Others chose animated movies such as “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

Many of the movies chosen by Freedom students were created in the late 20th century or early 21st century. “Elf” was released in 2003, and “Home Alone” was released in 1990. Students chose these due the nostalgia with the movies, as many have grown up watching these movies during the holiday season.

“I like the newer movies better, but watching old movies brings back a lot of memories, and I like watching them every Christmas,” said sophomore Julia Li.

Watching their favorite Christmas movies is a Christmas tradition for many FHS students. However, while FHS students may have different opinions on the best holiday movies, these movies are all dedicated to holidays celebrated by FHS.
