Streaming platforms have taken over most of the country’s TVs, including the ones of Freedom High School students. Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video are just a couple of the many streaming platforms offered by various companies. Not only are these platforms offering movies and TV shows on demand, but they are also producing their own shows that are only offered on their specific platform.
Stranger Things is one of the first shows that gained success on Netflix where it was selectively offered to watchers with a monthly subscription to their platform. The demand for cable networks has seemed to significantly decrease because of the huge output of exclusive movies and TV shows from these streaming platforms.
“I love Netflix because of all the new shows and movies that they come out with, but the monthly subscription price is very pricey especially because they keep increasing the price too” said an anonymous FHS student about the benefits of streaming services.
A survey was put out by UNCAGED to actively portray the stance of random FHS students on streaming platforms versus cable networks from October 9-13th on the Freedom News Broadcast announcements every morning for students to have the opportunity to choose whether they would like to submit an anonymous response to the two-question survey via QR code.
Sixty-one participants opted to be surveyed through the Google form. After the results of the survey were finalized, it was clear that an overwhelming majority of the participants preferred Netflix over any other streaming platform. However, it was interesting that many students still paid for cable networks in their homes, even though socially, streaming services have been getting more publicity and coverage than cable networks.
