The debate of whether school lunches are adequate enough for students has been a discussion for a long time, however, not all students buy lunch from school. Students will typically buy snacks from the lunch line regardless if they’re buying the actual lunch or not.
“Typically I tend to buy an Ice drink most days at lunch,” said sophomore Addison Pounder.
With this, certain students believe that the snack choices should be more diverse and include more options.
“I like the chips the school offers, but there’s only one shelf of chips that has the same brand with only a couple flavors,” Pounder said.
Freedom High School offers Doritos, Kettle Cooked Lays and popcorn on the shelf in the lunch line. Every once in a while the choices will be switched up, substituting one or two chips. Although it sounds like these choices don’t have FHS students very satisfied.
“I feel like the snack options are very bland,” said Senior Kayla Waterfield.
Besides chips, Freedom also provides Goldfish, PopTarts, fruit snacks and a variety of bars options. In addition, FHS also provides drinks such as Ice drinks, CapriSuns, smoothies, and Switch drinks. These are the same snacks and drinks students have grown up with throughout elementary and especially middle school.
Another issue that students have expressed concern for is the pricing of snacks.
“I never know how much snacks cost because there is no price for them,” Waterfield said.
It is very common for students to attempt to buy a snack but are unable to because their account has insufficient funds. With pricing on the items, students would have an idea about the cost and the impact to their account.
