Electives are a time for students to take a class of their choice and that is interesting to them. There are many options for students to take advantage of from the wide variety of electives offered at home high schools to the Academies of Loudoun. With the growth of knowledge about all of these options more students are able to take advantage of all of these different options.
With all of these options there is diversity within students’ classes and what they choose to do with their electives. With all of these options there are also many different reasons why people take these classes and what the importance of these classes is to them.
“It helps them explore their interests and possibly future careers,” said sophomore Piyush Goswami
The ability to explore different interests in high school can become very beneficial later in life when students are deciding what they want their major to be in college or what job they want to go into. Even if this is not the case it still gives students time to relax and go to a class that is less stressful and does not require as much work.
“My suggestion to students about what to take when thinking about elective options is take something you may not have a chance to take in the future,” said Colleen Hilliker, art teacher.
These electives give students a chance to try new activities with the possibility of finding a new skill or hobby, and this is also a time for students to destress and take their mind off of their core classes.
