The week of Sept. 16-20 marked 2024-2025’s homecoming week. It included a spirit week with an end of week pep rally, a variety of class challenges, a homecoming parade, a football game and the homecoming dance.
The overall theme of homecoming week was Eagella, inspired by Coachella, with each grade representing a different music genre. Freshmen were pop, sophomores were rock, juniors were rap and seniors were country. This spirit week consisted of Monday as Adam Sandler day, Tuesday as anything but a backpack day, Wednesday as dress as your favorite teacher day, Thursday as theme day and Friday as class color day.
This year, the traditional hallway decorating was discontinued with most focus on preparing for the parade.
The pep rally on Friday occurred with a recognition for fall sports teams. A variety of games were played such as tug of war, football bowling, and finish the lyrics. Additionally, the pep rally showcased performances by the K-pop dance club, Bollywood beats, the cheer team, and dance team accompanied by the football team. The girls soccer team was also recognized for their states win in the 2023-2024 school year with a banner being placed in the gym for their effort.
Along with the spirit week, Freedom brought back the homecoming parade on Friday, Sept. 20, which began at 5:30 p.m. at the Dulles South Recreation Center and ended in the Freedom bus loop. Featured in the homecoming parade were multiple different Freedom clubs, sports, organizations and the local elementary schools.
Some of these groups included PEER, DECA, theater, FCCLA, marching band, K-pop dance club and girls soccer. Each grade had a homecoming float decorated to match their class theme with the classes’ homecoming royalty. For the top eight seniors, each senior was carried down the parade route in their own Jeep.
The parade was followed by the homecoming football game against Riverside High School, which started at 7 p.m. The game ended with a Freedom loss of 0-39 score. The FHS Cheer Team performed a routine with young girls from South Riding during the first quarter. The Homecoming Court was also recognized at halftime, followed by a FHS Dance Team Performance. After the third quarter, the Freedom Girls Soccer Team was recognized for their states win.
The homecoming dance took place on Sept. 21 at Freedom with a DJ, a variety of snacks and candy, as well as a photo booth. The main hallway was filled with on theme decorations representing each of the Eagella music genres.
At the end of homecoming week, the senior class won and earned the most spirit points overall.
