On Dec. 3, from 7-7:30 p.m. the Freedom Orchestra with only three weeks to practice, managed to put together a successful winter concert. The orchestras that performed were Orchestra II, Orchestra III and Orchestra IV. In order to fit the winter theme of the concert, many of the orchestra members were dressed festively with Santa hats and reindeer antlers.
The concert began with Orchestra IV performing three excerpts from The Nutcracker that were “March,” “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Trepak.” The “March” was started off by Julia Li on violin. Orchestra III followed with the performance of the traditional piece, “S’Vivon” which was started off by Ace Avery on violin. Orchestra II played the traditional piece, “No Rest for the Merry” which was started off by Chai Siris on violin.
The concert concluded with all three orchestras performing a traditional Irish reel, “Bottom of the Punch Bowl” and “Concerto No. 4 L’ Inverno.” These two pieces were instructed by Lillian Green. The piece, “Bottom of the Punch Bowl” gave the orchestra members the opportunity to experiment with different music notes and styles. “Concerto No. 4 L’ Inverno,” was originally written in F minor but in this concert it was performed in E minor. During this piece, there were multiple violin, viola, and cello solos.
