With AP exam season quickly approaching, students in Freedom High School are getting prepared for one of the most challenging academic experiences of the year. While the pressure of AP exams is increasing, many students have their own unique ways of preparing for the tests. The key to earning a good score often lies in finding a study routine that works for them while balancing other schoolwork and extracurricular activities..
“I haven’t started studying for my AP exams yet, and honestly, I don’t think there’s really a ‘best time’ to start studying for it,” senior Surabhi Mohan said. “I know a couple of my friends who study last minute and got 5s.”
Mohan believes that students shouldn’t stress about starting too early but recommends beginning to prepare at least two or three months before the exams. She believes that this time frame provides a manageable amount of time to fully study without feeling rushed.
“I think reviewing topics one by one and consistently testing yourself on each concept is really effective,” Mohan said. “I also find explanations on YouTube to further help me on doubts.”
She also explains how to balance regular schoolwork while preparing for the AP exams.
“If I do end up getting homework, I just finish that early and focus on AP prep so it doesn’t turn into backlog,” Mohan said. “If this is your first time taking an AP exam, I’d say don’t stress too much beforehand. It may seem a lot at first, but it won’t be hard when you actually do it.”
Meanwhile, other students have a different way of studying for their materials.
“I believe that starting to study for AP exams during spring break can create a steady and manageable study pace,” Junior Avanthika Arul said. “Some of the most effective study methods I use to prepare for AP exams include using the official College Board practice tests, reviewing my notes, and watching online videos that help me understand difficult concepts.”
She also manages to stay organized to balance schoolwork and extracurricular activities.
“Something I am working on is to set a well-structured schedule to hit specific study goals before taking an AP exam,” Arul said. “Staying organized and making time for breaks also helps maintain focus and prevent losing your energy.”
Lastly, Arul gives an advice for students who are taking AP exams for the first time.
“Start preparing ahead of time, familiarize yourself with the test format, and practice time management,” Arul said. “Don’t stress too much about it.
