5 Ways to Stay Productive This Winter Break

Helina Wondwossen

As winter break approaches, and students and staff alike are given over a week of free time, it is tempting to spend that time off watching TV in bed. Although there is nothing wrong in taking time to relax, using winter break as an opportunity to get ahead can be extremely beneficial. Here are some ways to stay productive over winter break:

  1. Tackle one assignment/project a day. Dedicate at least an hour every day to college applications, upcoming homework and assignments or personal projects, putting you in great shape to return to school when break is over.
  2. Write down a list of goals you want to achieve. Winter break can be a great time to reflect and look towards the future. Although there are benefits in setting a deadline for these goals, do not wait until New Year to put them in action!
  3. Catch up on chores and cleaning. Taking time to clean your room, do the dishes or tidy up around the house can set the mood for the rest of the day. Even little accomplishments are important.
  4. Stay active. Though this is definitely easier said than done, spending your days in bed will leave you sluggish after the holidays. Get out and take a walk, if the weather permits, or do some basic exercises. As long as you are moving it counts.
  5. Have some fun! Make sure you take time to enjoy the holidays. Spend time with friends and family, bake some Christmas cookies, anything that makes you happy.

Trying any of these suggestions will prepare you to return to school in the best shape possible. Have a great winter break, and happy holidays!
