The theme for this week’s football game is pink out, as it usually is at the end of October. Freedom has had pink out football games for years now and the theme strives to remind students that October is breast cancer awareness month.
About 1 out of every 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, according to Breastcancer.org. The numbers of women who develop breast cancer is extremely high, yet the issue is rarely talked about outside of pink outs.
The question arises about whether or not pink-outs are doing good for raising breast cancer awareness. For kids whose parents have had breast cancer, however, the pink out is great for spreading awareness.
“I think the pink outs are a great way to spread awareness,” junior Sydney Lemmerman said. “It has become known what the colors represent and has definitely spread the word.”
