On Thursday, Oct. 13, Freedom volleyball took on and swept rivals John Champe High School. This wasn’t just an ordinary Thursday evening volleyball game, it was senior night, a night where the love and appreciation for the seniors is shown.

“Senior night is a night of reflection to see all the hard work that the girl’s put in since they’ve came in as freshmen,” said Jimmy Kerwin, FHS volleyball head coach.

Lean Molnar, Payton Delean, Libby Donahoe, Sydney Laywell, Carolyn Troiano and Emma Kerwin were all honored by getting handed flowers and walking out with their families to bleachers full of friends, family and fans cheering them on.

Two of Freedom’s seniors, Emma Kerwin and Payton Delean, will be continuing their academic careers in college as volleyball commits.

Emma Kerwin, daughter of Kerwin, will be heading to Millersville University.

“I’m super excited, and I’m really proud of Emma. It’s hard being the coach’s kid and for her to be able to sort of do this on her own and earn her way to a division 2 scholarship is really awesome,” Kerwin said.

Payton Delean will be attending Haverford College.

“For me senior night is a night of reflection to be able to see all the hard work that the girl’s have put in. To see them come through the program and preserve all the challenges they had and finish up this year and have a wonderful season so far,” Kerwin said.
