On Friday, Feb. 20, students at Freedom High School participated in a walkout protesting ICE. The walkout was organized by freedomsr.against.ice in collaboration with Global Youth Partnership. Student organizers received permission from Principal Tania Brown to proceed with the event.
The walkout took place indoors in the school cafeteria, where students gathered and several speakers shared speeches explaining their perspectives on ICE and why the issue matters to them and their communities. The speeches focused on ICE related incidents around the country, concerns about immigration policies, and the importance of standing up for what they believe in.
The event provided students with an opportunity to engage in civic expression and discuss political issues in a respectful environment. Many participants felt that the walkout allowed them to feel heard and supported while exercising their right to share their opinions.
