Barbara Oliphant, forever Freedom’s beloved librarian.
Friday, Dec. 19 was Oliphant’s last day at Freedom High School before her retirement. Oliphant has been at Freedom for the past 18 years, and has made many memories with so many students.
“I wish everyone the best, and I’m definitely going to miss them,” Oliphant said.
Oliphant made so many contributions to our school library over the years, but overall she hopes that she made the library feel like a welcoming place for everyone. Oliphant has been involved in so many things at Freedom, from working with Project Lit to coaching Freedom gymnastics, she has done so much for our school.
“I get a lot of joy when I find the right book for the right person,” Oliphant said.
There are a few things that Freedom Students should know. First, Oliphant has worked at our school for 18 years, and started at Freedom as a coach for the Freedom gymnastics team. Second, Oliphant’s favorite book to recommend is a book called Dead Girls Don’t Write Letters by Gail Giles.
“I will recommend that to people who come in and say, ‘I don’t like to read,’ And most of the time, they will come back and be like, ‘I loved it. Do you have another one that’s awesome?'” Oliphant said.
Throughout Oliphant’s fifteen years as Freedom’s librarian, she has made such a difference.
Good luck, Oliphant, in whatever you end up doing. You’ve changed Freedom, and it won’t be the same without you.
