Staying healthy and fit

Getting enough sleep, staying active, and eating right are just some ways to keep fit and stay healthy. Students at Freedom High School have a multitude of ways of doing this. Many students play sports for school or clubs, and exercise on their own. Right now football, volleyball, and cross country are in full swing until the end of fall.

Many student athletes use time outside of school to perfect their skills and practice in order to improve the competitive season. Junior Mikail Wasi is one of many whom dedicates his free time to athletics.

“I spend two and a half hours exercising right after school Monday through Friday,” Wasi said.

Nutrition is a very important key to being healthy, but making the right decisions in regards to food can be challenging. Senior Ishan Malhorta struggled with eating healthy, but found ways to motivate himself to change his diet.

“I told myself that I need to be healthy to be able to keep competing and destroy my competition,” Malhorta said.

Staying active also has the potential to improve one’s mental health as well. Sophomore Susie Kim is currently on the junior varsity volleyball team, and believes physical and mental health can go hand in hand.

“It keeps me in shape during the fall season and serves as a good stress outlet,” Kim said.
