Every year, May is the month where all AP Exams are taken throughout the country. For sophomores in Freedom High School, this May was their first experience taking the test. Sophomore Alison Mun took the AP World History Exam on May 11, and used many different methods to study for it.

“I watched Heimler’s History videos, joined the google meets that my history teacher hosted, and took online practice tests,” Mun said.

Many students turned to Heimler’s History videos as a way to quickly review each topic of the many units from the year. Even though Mun thoroughly prepared for the exam, she still felt that other methods of studying could have been more effective.

“I will prepare better next year by making flashcards for each unit that I can use throughout the year,” Mun said.

Studying for this exam can be a long process that has to be started well in advance. Sophomore Akshadha Venkat took the AP Calculus AB Exam on May 8, and felt as if she should have started studying earlier.

“The mistake I made this year was I started studying a week before, next year I will make a schedule to study and follow it,” Venkat said.

Along with the rigorous studying that is needed to take these tests, students also don’t enjoy the environment they have to take it in. For students that were taking the test on paper, they had to take it in the Auxiliary Gym, while the students who took it online had to take it in the Library.

“I didn’t enjoy taking the test in the aux gym, because it was a stressful and cold environment, and I would rather take it in the library,” Mun said.

Mun and Venkat will use their knowledge of how to prepare for AP Exams to take next year’s AP English Language and Composition Exam, along with many more.
